A winter's day in St Petersburg, the tsarist past
sleeping amongst the beautiful architecture and the world's leading
museums and theatres - clockmaking is perhaps not the first thing
that springs to mind. Yet you would be surprised at the gems that
are hiding here - and the clock studio of Konstantin Chaykin is
certainly one of them!

The Juble of Watches
October 4th, 2005, «Now»
He dislikes it when they call him "Kulibin" – in
honor of the Russian great inventor. Though Ivan Petrovitch Kulibin
himself could be jealous of him. If Catherine’s the Second
was thrilled by the time-measuring device in the form of a goose
egg, made by that self–made master, the invention of Konstantin
Chaykin will get raving reviews all over the world. In Chaykin’s
clock there is no miniature theater with angels – the view
which delighted the Empress, but the mechanism is much more complicated...

«Facts
and Arguments»
Time measuring mechanisms cannot be called an extravagance
as they appear to be the life necessity. You will find on sale watches
for all tastes, at various price. Though a lot of people especially
young ones have swapped their watches for mobile phones which indicate
time as well. But a mobile phone can discharge and you will find
yourself without means of communication and without your watch.

mechanic watch. You just wind it up and handle it carefully and
it will work without any fault for good...

Outcome
of 2004
January 2005, «Watch
Business»
Konstantin Chaykin, a free-lance master from St.Petersburg,
on the base of “Vesna” desktop clockwork has created
the watch with a tourbillon for the first time in Russia. As a matter
of fact it is not the same thing to install a tourbillon in a wrist
watch or to create a three-axial tourbillon from the very beginning.
Nowadays Konstantin Chaykin by having created his clock confirmed
the following two facts: firstly, we can do it, when we want to;
secondly, not a single clockmaking state manufactory wants to do
it – they are still begging for some state support - but some
enthusiastic people, who are not connected with this industry, can
do it...
